Soon teachers across the state will be making their way to the annual NJEA convention, November 8-9, 2018 in Atlantic City. While your mind is probably focused on what speakers you want to hear and the awesome exhibits you’ll want to visit (don’t forget to stop by and see us at Booth 2016), it’s a great time to begin planning out where you want to eat while you are in AC. With so many options it’s best to have a plan in place, especially if your budget is tight.
Of course you can always eat at the convention center but the options are limited and you probably want to be a bit more adventurous. If you are looking for delicious options outside of the convention center we have some really great places to recommend. These restaurants are broken down by price, and we have chosen only the ones with the best reviews. Don’t forget to check our Deals & Discounts page for coupons you can use on your visit as well.
Inexpensive Restaurants – $
If you are looking to spend as little as possible, while still eating delicious food, this list is sure to please any craving you may have. Many of these places are within walking distance and have fantastic reviews. Dine-in or take-out options are available.
- White House Sub Shop – Delicious Jersey subs with over 1,200 Google reviews. Swing by for lunch or dinner without breaking the bank. – 2301 Arctic Ave
- Hot Bagels – Bagels, sandwiches, burgers, baked goods, etc. Grab a quick (and cheap) bite to eat for breakfast or lunch. – 212 Pacific Ave.
- Brittany Cafe – Traditional comfort breakfast food, fresh breads, hot sandwiches, and salads. An easy option for breakfast or lunch. – 4313 Ventnor Ave.
- Bill’s Gyro Souvalki – Highly rated gyros right on the boardwalk and close to the convention center. – 1607 Boardwalk.
- El Tacuate Mexican Restaurant – If you’re craving tacos, this is the place to go. Inexpensive with fantastic reviews. – 1704 Atlantic Ave.
- Yummy Take-Out – Chinese food (take-out only) with free delivery. Have it delivered right to your hotel room for lunch or dinner. 2 N Mississippi Ave.
- South End Pizza – Grab a slice or a whole pie, wings, or pasta for lunch or dinner. Delicious and fast meal options. 4008 Ventnor Ave.
Average Priced Restaurants – $$
A little bit pricier than the above list, but still great food for moderate prices. Food options outside of the casinos are abundant, but these are our top picks with the greatest AC reviews.
- Hannah G’s – An inviting cafe serving breakfast and lunch with amazing gluten-free and vegan menus. If you have food sensitivities or restrictions this is the place to visit. 7310 Ventnor Ave.
- Chickie’s & Pete’s – In case you’ve never been to one, it’s a sports bar, chain restaurant with killer crab fries and a lot of other classics. A fun ending to a long day at the NJEA. 2831 Boardwalk.
- Bubbies Bistro – This kosher friendly Italian restaurant has pizza, sandwiches, crab cakes, subs, salads, and the pictures look amazing! 5204 Ventnor Ave.
- Downbeach Deli & Restaurant – Dine in or take out at this amazing deli shop. A huge menu with great reviews. 8 S Essex Ave.
- The Nizams – If comfort Indian food is what you are craving The Nizams is the place to go. 6666 Blackhorse Pike.
More Expensive (with great reviews) – $$$-$$$$
Maybe you are planning to turn the two days into a special getaway, or you want to take friends and coworkers out for a nice meal. In any case, these top 3 outside of the casinos fine dining restaurants are fantastic options.
- Dock’s Oyster House – Seafood lovers look no further than Dock’s Oyster House. An extensive menu of fresh seafood and wine, at decent prices. 2405 Atlantic Ave.
- Ruth’s Chris – If steak is what you are craving, this is certainly the place to go! Despite being a chain, this high-end restaurant is well known for having delicious cuts of beef and amazing sides. 2020 Atlantic Ave.
- Chef Vola’s – A well-kept secret within AC that has received rave reviews from critics. It’s often referred to as a hideaway speakeasy with amazing old school Italian cuisine. 111 S Albion Pl.
