In sign language, prosodic features include duration of a sign, pause, eye aperture, facial expression, use of signing space and more. Teaching prosodic features can help lead to successful communication. In this live video conference, Dr. Deborah Cates, PhD, Sign Language Program Coordinator, Iowa School for the Deaf, will discuss the important role prosodic features have in Signed English and ASL. With thirteen years of experience in educational interpreting, Dr. Cates will guide educators to recognize and understand these features through an informational workshop as well as live practice time
