Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and it’s a really fun occasion for special class crafts and activities. Finish packing your winter holiday decorations and turn the page to this heart-themed holiday in the heart of the school year. These top 7 Valentine’s Day Crafts are a great way to keep your students interested and excited even in the cold and dreary winter months.
The best part about a heart wreath Valentine’s craft is that you can hang this up year after year. All you need to make this is foam paper and ribbon. Have your students cut out shades of pink and/or purple hearts and glue in a circle. Once they are fastened together, glue the ribbon hoop onto the back for hanging. You could even put their pictures in the middle of the wreath to make it even more personalized.

Your crafts don’t all have to be wreaths, but these 2 were so cute and easy to make that we had to include both. To make this you only need pink and purple construction paper and a stapler. You can hang these around your classroom for decorations or you can send them home with your students.

Yarn wrapped ornaments and decorations are great for hand-eye coordination. To begin, have your students cut out a cardboard heart. Using hot glue, secure the end of the red yarn to the cardboard before you begin wrapping it. Wrap in random patterns around the cardboard so that there is not a heavy build-up in one area only. Once it looks the way your students want it, you can hot glue the end and attach a loop of yarn to hang it.

This Valentine’s Day craft is the best thing since cardboard mailboxes. It’s a fun craft, can be used for your classroom party, and is a great one for younger students. This involves cutting the top of 2 plates to make it flat, gluing and cutting out hearts for the front, and also sewing. Once your students have cut the tops of the plates, you will want to hole-punch a pattern along the round end for them to stitch the yarn through. Make sure the yarn is long enough to make a large hoop for the top so that they can wear it as a bag or purse.

Valentines Butterfly Treat Bags
These butterfly treat bags are so cute and so easy to make. That’s the best kind of craft. If you can’t find the red and white candy hearts (tip: look at Dollar Tree or other dollar stores) you can use any candy this shade (red Skittles or M & M’s for example). Before you even fill the bags, you will want to make the clothespin butterfly body so that it has time to dry. Paint the clothespin pink or purple and then add polka dots. Hot glue the eyes and antennas on and allow to fully dry. Lastly, add the treats to the bags and separate into 2 sides so that when you put it between the clip the wings are even.

If you want to give your students something that isn’t a sugary treat, this homemade hidden heart bookmark is a great idea. You will first create double sided paper with pink and red construction paper. Cut out the heart shape on the red piece and then secure them together and add a special little note.
