You know the stats: according to NPR.org and the Huffington Post, teachers are spending around $500- $1,000 of their own money on classroom supplies each and every year. That really adds up. As a teacher you spend money on other people’s kids. Whether it’s out of pure necessity, or driven by your passion, it’s part of the territory! You are making purchases for items needed in the classroom like teaching aids and supplies, along with all the normal everyday items. All teachers can use a break and a bargain now and then to bring that out of pocket number down a bit. So, to help reduce costs on purchases for both your home and classroom, we have compiled a list of great apps that can save you money.

Top 10 Apps to Save You Money

Honey – Honey is a great app to download to your phone or computer. This is a tool that works really well for online ordering, especially Amazon. If you put an item in your shopping cart, Honey will tell you if this is the best deal, or if there is a better deal or coupon. No need to scour the internet for a specific coupon (which is nearly impossible for Amazon coupons). Honey will also enter coupon codes for you at checkout for various sites (even pizza shops) to find you the best deal.

Shopkick – Shopkick is a really neat app because it lets you earn points, (or “kicks” as they call it) every time you go shopping. If you are out running around and go to the grocery store, Walmart, or Home Depot, you earn points just for shopping and having the app. You can use this app online and in stores. As you shop with Shopkick you earn points towards gift cards which can really add up. This app has made Editor’s Choice (which means it meets Googles strict guidelines for a great app), as well as given shoppers over $63.8 million back in points.

RetailMeNot – Retail Me Not is a great coupon website for online and in-store purchases. The app though, is even better! Carry around the Retail Me Not coupons with you wherever you go, and easily access them at checkout. Save on everything from pizza, to makeup and everything in between. Simply show the cashier your app at checkout and they will scan the coupon barcode. This can be used for online purchases straight from your phone or computer, as well as in-store. Unlike some coupon apps, you cannot save the coupons to your rewards card, this is simply a coupon app that you can search for retailers you plan to use.

Flipp – Flipp is a neat app because it scans weekly discounts and flyers and finds the best deals. With Flipp you never need to look through circulars again. Simply look up the item or category that you are searching for and Flipp will tell you where to go to get the best deal. It’s that simple. You can even add your loyalty rewards cards for various stores to Flipp: that way your rewards card, and coupons are preloaded to make checkout a breeze. This app is to be used in-store when you are out shopping. This is not an online shopping app.

DealNews – Take the guesswork out of finding the best deals on the internet with DealNews.  DealNews scours the web for the best deals and shows you where to purchase in order to save. Their experts analyze thousands of online deals, coupons, and freebies to get their users only the best discounts available. To use the app simply search by product, store or category and discover the savings.

Coupons.com – Coupons.com has always been a great resource for printable coupons. Now with the app, you never have to worry about cutting and clipping, all you need to do is select the coupons you want to use and add them to your app. Coupons.com even searches for the stores closest to you to find the greatest deal on various items. You can loads coupons right to your shoppers rewards card through the app and make checkout even easier. Some stores will require you to take a picture of your receipt, and you will be paid (via PayPal) the difference. No waiting until you reach a certain limit to get paid back, you can instantly receive money via PayPal with each receipt you enter.

Coupon Sherpa – Coupon Sherpa updates mobile coupons daily, giving you access to in-store, and online coupons wherever you go.  This is helpful for saving at retail stores, grocery shopping and restaurants. The app requires internet access, so you must be connected via WiFi or your cell phone service in order to use it.

Walmart Savings Catcher – Walmart has come out with a tremendous app that can really save you big time. With the Savings Catcher app shoppers receive free shipping, it allows you to easily order and reorder items right from your phone, and they will also pay you back if you didn’t get the best local deal. The Savings Catcher app stays up to date with the local deals and if someone else is offering an item for less, you get the difference back in the form of a Walmart gift card. Those savings can really add up! Who has time to browse through circulars looking for the best deal anyway?

Favado– Favado allows you to cut your grocery bill by up to 70%.  This app finds the best prices for your area, checking grocery and drug stores deals. Favado will also tell you what items are on sale and if there is a current coupon for that item too. Some deals they find are not even advertised, therefor you never would have known it existed without the app.

Target  – If you shop at Target, you have to get the Target app. This replaced the old Cartwheel app, and now allows customers to find deals, load coupons, and scan items to see what the price is while shopping. The new app also allows you to add your Target RedCard right to the app to make checkout even easier. RedCard users receive 5% off every purchase, as well as free shipping for all online orders.
