Salad Bars to Schools (SB2S) is a grant being offered to schools nationally. Any district or independent school who is already part of the National School Lunch Program is welcome to apply. SB2S came about because of their mission to make sure all kids have access to healthy fruits and vegetables. The 6 foot long salad bar is integrated as part of the reimbursable meals served in your school or district. Schools must currently serve 100 or more reimbursable meals per day to qualify.
According to the Salad Bars to Schools website, approximately 17% of children are obese. This grant provides schools with access to healthier food options. To apply for this grant, your school’s food services director and superintendent must apply. After your school has applied and if you are approved, the school is placed on the waiting list until the grant is fully funded. This can sometimes take up to 12 months.
