Three of the most beautiful beach days of the summer greeted nearly 1,000 NJ educators, plus their guests at Teacher Week at the Beach 2018, held July 18-20 at Jenkinson’s Beach and Boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach. The three-day event, now in its third year, was hosted by Teachers’ Insurance Plan of NJ, a Plymouth Rock Assurance company that offers auto and home insurance exclusively to NJ educational employees. Teachers in attendance received beach passes and a choice of mini golf or aquarium passes for themselves and a guest. According to Teachers’ Insurance, over 1,800 beach passes were given away, along with the accompanying amusement passes and other freebies, like beach balls for kids in attendance, and tubes of sunscreen.

Billed as a way to give back and show appreciation to the state’s teachers for all that they do, the event attracted a record number of attendees this year. “Word seems to be getting out,” remarked Chris West, Teachers’ Insurance Plan marketing manager. “We’ve hosted the event for three years now, and it’s gotten bigger every year. Last year we had just over 1300 attendees, and now we are up to over 1800.”

Teachers’ Insurance was launched in the 1990s with a focus on serving educators and has had a long tradition of supporting NJ schools and teachers in creative ways. “We are always looking for ways to support educators; they’re not just our customers, they are some of the most important people in our children’s lives. When they thrive, our kids thrive.” The Teacher Week at the Beach event is among several other initiatives sponsored by the company. “We’ve done a lot over the years, from programs like this to grants and scholarships of all kinds. This past year we began sponsoring PD scholarships at Liberty Science Center, as well as several Teacher Preview Days that offer free programs for educators throughout the year. In 2018 we also helped to launch the first-ever Educator Wellness Week in NJ, to help raise awareness about the importance of prioritizing wellness in schools and school districts. And about a year and a half ago, we launched a resource and blog website dedicated exclusively to New Jersey’s teachers: nj-teachers.com. We’re really proud of the work that the site does in cataloging all the teacher events, available grants, PD programs, educator deals and discounts around the state, as well as entertaining and practical blogs by NJ teachers for NJ teachers. It’s a really unique resource.”
