Cross-curricular and Interdisciplinary PD
Cross-curricular and interdisciplinary are big buzzwords in education today. We teachers are looking to incorporate reading, writing, math, science, and social studies into lessons daily. Duke Farms offers professional development to enrich all teachers in the areas of ecology, conservation, and nature to help them inspire learners in every classroom at every level. No matter your discipline and level, you will benefit from a visit to Duke Farms, where the mission is “to inspire visitors to become informed stewards of the land.”
More than Just PD
This educator can honestly say after visiting, that she is, indeed, inspired! I stumbled on this excellent field trip destination when I registered for a professional development class they were offering on project based learning. Besides the benefit of the class (which was hands on, interactive, and EXCEPTIONAL), they gave us a tour of the farms, and put us up for the night in a cottage. We were able to get an after-hours experience that included some ghost stories, nature observations, “green” techniques, and a lot of laughing.
Duke Farms boasts 18 miles of hiking and biking trails with free entry. They also provide many classroom resources at their visitor center, host a community garden, maintain lush greenhouses, manage an online viewable eagle cam, and offer incredible, multidisciplinary (low cost) professional development classes for teachers year round. Check out their low cost summer presentations!
