Teaching About Contested Issues: The Choices Approach

March 5, 2020 @ 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

$145
Abraham Lincoln statue in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC

It’s not uncommon for students to feel they don’t need to learn about history. We’ve all seen the “what’s done is done, it’s in the past” mindset. That’s why history and social studies educators are challenged with keeping students engaged and excited to learn. Luckily, The Choices Program from Brown University created an innovative curriculum and videos that make contested international issues accessible and relevant. This interactive professional development experience will introduce The Choices Program’s resources and take a deep dive into The Civil War and the Meaning of Liberty and Responding to Terrorism: Challenges for Democracy units. The workshop fee includes print and a one-year license for the digital editions of these units. Materials are appropriate for grades 7-12.
