Teach Like a Magician (Grades k-12)

November 30, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 1:30 pm

$149

This workshop will be taught by Philip La Porta, a Professor at Rowan in the College of Science and Mathematics who has both a Ph.D. in Physics AND is a magician, making him uniquely qualified to discuss how thinking about STEM like a magician increases student engagement and accelerate STEM education in the classroom.

As described on the website:

“Student engagement is one of the top priorities in STEM education. By structuring lessons and thinking about topics the way a magician would, STEM educators can more effectively engage students and therefore increase progress towards desired learning outcomes.

Through a combination of group work and individual reflective practice, participants in this truly one-of-a-kind workshop will learn and experience Dr. La Porta’s own 5 point approach, “The Magic Bridge.” This approach is applicable to any discipline and is incredibly useful for ensuring every lesson (and/or Instructor) is fully interesting, authentic, and engaging to students of all backgrounds and ages.”

This session will earn 5 professional development hours.
