There have been many words to describe Billie Jean King; visionary, pioneer, and legend just to name a few. As a tennis champion and social activist, she lives her life according to the principles of equality, empowerment, and access. The Billie Jean King Foundation was created to “inspire humankind in the pursuit of excellence, ensure equal opportunity and enhance the quality of life for all individuals- regardless of gender, race, religion, appearance, or sexual orientation”. Public schools are encouraged to apply for this grant to support students’ health, education, and athleticism. The grants range from $1,000 to $25,000 each.
